Ngorongoro Conservation Area

This dual-use conservation area – inhabited bt the Maasai and their cattle as well as wildlife – protects a large part of Ngorongoro Highlands, including the magnificet Ngorongoro Crater, the largest intact caldera in the world. Ngorongoro Crater, supports the world’s densest population of lions and spotted hyena.

It is the last place in Tanzania where black rhinoceros are reasonably easy to see, and is also notable for its magnificent old tuskers, a rare sight today elsewhere in Tanzania.

The Ngorongoro Crater is heavily touristed, which does detract from many people’s visit.

A number of other remote natural landmarks in the Ngorongoro Highlands can be visited by vehicle or on foot. Numerous lodges and campsites are found on the crater rim.
