Mkomazi National Park is located in northeastern Tanzania on the Kenyan border in the Kilimanjaro and Tanga Region.
It was established as a game reserve in 1951 and upgraded to a national park in 2006.
The park covers over 3,234 square kilometres and is dominated by Acacia-Commiphora vegetation. It is contiguous with Kenya”s famous Tsavo West National Park.
Wild and largely undeveloped, Mkomazi spreads along the shadow of the Pare Mountains.
Creatures that you’re likely to spot include the oryx, eland, dik-dik, kudu and hartebeest.
The gigantic seasonal elephant herds that once crossed consistently between Tsavo and Mkomazi are starting to return.
